This free event will take place in the British Library Knowledge Centre Eliot Room. Join curators Melodie Doumy and Kitty Liu for an insider’s look at A Silk Road Oasis: Life in Ancient Dunhuang. They will walk you through the entire process, from shaping the exhibition’s narrative to the final touches. Discover how each object was carefully selected to highlight Dunhuang’s rich history of commercial, diplomatic, religious and intellectual exchanges, and learn how the gallery design evokes the atmosphere of this vibrant cultural hub on the Silk Roads. You will also hear about the immersive soundscape, specifically commissioned to complement and enhance the display This event accompanies the British Library exhibition A Silk Road Oasis: Life in Ancient Dunhuang. Separate ticket for exhibition entry required. Doors open at 12:30. Please arrive no later than 15 minutes before the start time of this event. The Curators’ Lunchtime Lecture is free to attend but booking is required. @eventsBL Mélodie Doumy is Lead Curator for Chinese collections (Stein and Hoernle), with special responsibility for the International Dunhuang Programme (IDP) at the British Library. She is a key member of the curatorial team for the exhibition, A Silk Road Oasis: Life in Ancient Dunhuang. Her research focuses on the history of these remarkable collections, the materiality of the Dunhuang manuscripts, and the social and religious practices associated with them. Before joining the British Library, Mélodie served as Assistant Curator for the Gilbert Collection at the V&A. Kitty Liu joined the Library as project curator for the exhibition A Silk Road Oasis: Life in Ancient Dunhuang. With a lifelong passion for museums and cultural heritage, Kitty specializes in the preservation and study of ancient Chinese architecture. She began her career as a heritage consultant before spending five years curating exhibitions and managing collections in museum settings, honing her skills in presenting cultural treasures to the public.
